We Are Quite Literally in a Live-Action Boondocks Episode
There’s way too much crazy shit going on in the world right now… and honestly, I’d like to unsubscribe.
Listen. I woke up this week to another round of headlines that read like rejected satire from The Onion and at this point, I’m convinced we’re living in a real-life Boondocks reboot where the writers are high on chaos and nostalgia.
Let’s start with the politics. Trump is out here rebranding his immigration policies with a “Big Beautiful Bill,” which sounds less like legislation and more like a discount steakhouse in the Midwest. And if that wasn’t enough, he’s doubling down on ending birthright citizenship. You know, that small thing that lets babies born in the U.S. actually be U.S. citizens. That little thing that was written into the constitution as an Amendment so that those born to enslaved people could not be denied their citizenship? Cool, cool, just tossing the Constitution in the group chat like a meme.
And as for his feud with Elon Musk? I’m not sure if it’s a billionaire brawl or the world’s weirdest PR campaign for an app no one asked for. But it’s giving “you can’t sit with us” energy except everyone already wants to leave the cafeteria.
But let’s pivot to the mess that had me in a full spiral this past week: Diddy.
After a string of lawsuits, leaked footage, and whispers turned sirens of abuse, the man was found not guilty and my eyebrows are still stuck in a permanent raise. I’ve been following this case like it’s a high-stakes drama on Rotten Mango, my go-to true crime podcast (if you know, you know — Stephanie Soo does her homework).
What gets me isn’t just the outcome, but the pattern. The evidence was mounting. The testimonies had weight. The stories were disturbingly consistent. And yet… here we are.
Every time a powerful Black celebrity is accused, and yes, especially when the accusations come from Black women, the world goes real quiet, real fast. Or worse: defensive. It’s hard watching the cycle of silence, protection, and deflection play out again.
At this point, I’m half-waiting for Uncle Ruckus to show up and start narrating the news.
Because in between watching billionaires argue on Twitter (sorry, X), democracy slipping through our fingers, and watching the justice system protect power instead of people, I just… don’t know how we’re still pretending this isn’t all connected.
It’s wild out here.
